Average weather in Portugal
Portugal weather varies considerably from one region to another. It’s influenced by the topography, latitude and how close you are to the sea, and offers mild winters, especially in the south.
Portugal is mainly characterized by a warm temperate, mediterranean climate.
During spring/summer months (April to October), Portugal receives refreshing sea breezes, making for very pleasant conditions. Daytime maximum temperatures reach 30°C (78°F) in July/August, 11 or 12 hours of sunshine can be expected.
Winter weather in Portugal remains mild, with an average temperature of 13ºC (56ºF), with some risk of snow in the mountains to the north. Portuguese winters are moderately cool and the wet season runs from November to March, concentrated mainly in the northern and mountainous central areas. In the winter in Porto, in northern Portugal, minimum temperatures are around 13ºC (56ºF) on average, where as in Faro on the south coast the minimum temperature in January is about 15ºC (59ºF).
